No. The Foreign Device Specification – For Port Connection Kit supports a limited set of imageRUNNER devices. These include: iR C5185 / C4580 / C4080plus “i” models; and iR C3480 / C3080 / C3380 / C2880 / C2550 plus “i” models.
A related, but separate, FDI connection via a Copy Cable is supported by other monochrome imageRUNNER models. That specification is not currently available. Return to Top of Page
Yes. FDI has two versions: 1) For Color imageRUNNER devices and connects via a Port Connection Kit; 2) for other imageRUNNER devices via a Copy Cable. The FDI Specification currently available addresses only the former connection method. Canon currently provides no support or specifications for the Copy Cable method or interface. If you require this specification please inform us so we can work to make it available.

Yes. A Canon-sourced Port Connection Kit – A1 must be installed on the imageRUNNER device. This kit collects and converts signals from several internal areas of the MFP and makes them available to the 3rd party device. The external connects to the imageRUNNER via the Port Connection Kit.

DM Developers who are granted access to the FDI Specification are provided one Port Connection Kit as a development support courtesy. End customers obtain a kit via their Authorized Canon Dealer. Installation of the Port Connection Kit is complex; installation procedures are provided only to Authorized Canon Dealers. Service of an imageRUNNER device by a Non-Canon Authorized Dealer may void applicable equipment warrantees and terms of service.

Yes. The FDI via Port Connection Kit requires specific option settings via the MFP’s Service Mode. Access to Service Mode and the specific setting information is limited to Authorized Canon Dealers.
No. Only the copy settings are restricted. Functions such as Send, Mailbox, and Scan (if equipped) will still be available to a user. An Authorized Canon Technician can remove these functions from view via Service Mode. Return to Top of Page
